Iowa Barn Tour part 3---more barn quilts !

It was Saturday afternoon and we had finished with the Iowa Barn Tour and still had plenty of time to explore the area so we returned back to the Washington county area. The clouds overhead were threatening rain but mostly it was sprinkling and was not a problem. We used the map from the county extension department and started yet another treasure hunt. Right away we hit the jackpot and it was one great find after another...

And lots more here...

Mrs. PF is a quilter and recognized the patterns by name in most cases but as for me, I was just happy to be driving around in farm country and soaking up the rural atmosphere.....did it smell like hogs in some places? Yes....but that was ok too....

This one was a favorite of Mrs. PF....

but I liked them all....

I did like this one more than most....very classy...

And this farm was a long drive down a dusty road whereas most were on paved roads but it was worth the drive as the barn had a nice quilt on each end...

and not too far away was this very nice old barn that I thought would make a good one to convert to living quarters...
and across the road at the farm house was this garage...
and this one with some green colors sure looked nice on the white barn...
And by this time we returned to the town of Washington where the courthouse square had been converted to a giant Relay for Life event and we drove around town and found yet a few more quilts...

And we found a restored gas station that was converted to insurance office that was really nice...
Then we retreated to the motel and took a long walk on the nature trail that was made from a former railroad line before heading off for supper at a good place the motel clerk had recommended. And that wraps up our weekend mini vacation to Iowa. Thank you for riding along...
